Filipino American Students Association -- FASA

The Filipino American Student Association (FASA), focuses on bringing together students who wish to celebrate Filipino culture and identity at the University of Michigan. FASA's community guarantees that members will feel at home by creating a tight knit campus community.

FASA was first founded in 1986 by a small group of friends. Today, the organization has grown to include over 60 participants. Open to all students who desire to experience and learn about the Filipino-American culture, FASA has become a staple among Asian-American campus groups. Members partake in a variety of on-campus traditions including:

  • Organizing Filipino youth conferences that are widely recognized by UM students and throughout the Filipino community

  • Supporting multiple campus-wide charity events throughout the year, including the AIDS Walk, the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life Walk-a-thon

  • Fundraising for Las-ud Elementary School located in Tagudin, Philippines.

  • Producing the annual Philippine Culture Night (PCN) event where students get the chance to truly enjoy a night of Filipino culture as they view modern hip-hop dances alongside traditional Tinikling performances, taste authentic Filipino foods and desserts; ticket purchases help support the Save the Children Foundation

The organization's many programs, performances, social and cultural events create a close community for members who oftentimes come to consider FASA a family away from home.
