IASA - Indian American Student Association

The Indian American Student Association (IASA) at the University of Michigan is one of the largest and most active student organizations in the United States, with a membership of well over six hundred. Founded in 1983, IASA serves to promote various aspects of Indian culture and heritage through an assortment of events that raise political, social, and cultural awareness. One of the most anticipated and highly regarded IASA events is the annual charity Cultural Show, with its first show coordinator appointed in 1990. The show aims to preserve Indian culture through a fusion of dance, music, theatre, and art, while actively giving back to the community.  Many different acts are featured in this annual performance. The show features many renditions of Indian cultural dance performances. These range from the competition-based style of the Raas team to the modern American music infused Bhangra dance performance. The breadth of the acts shows what a tremendously complex and diverse organization IASA has grown to be.
